A pond liner is an impermeable geomembrane used for retention of liquids, including the lining of reservoirs, retention basins, hazardous and nonhazardous surface impoundments, garden ponds and artificial streams in parks and gardens.

Pond liners need to be protected from sharp objects (for example, stones) below the liner and from being punctured by any objects in the water body. Protection can be provided with layers of sand, geotextiles (particularly needle-punched nonwovens) and other materials. Pond liners are manufactured in rolls or accordion-folded on pallets. When deployed in the field their edges and ends are overlapped and seamed together. Methods are thermal fusion, solvents, adhesives and tapes.

Pond Liner: HDPE pond liner

Our thickness range for pond liner is from 0.15mm to 2.0mm. Maximum width is 8m and some extra thin pond liner can reach 9m. Length can be 50m, 100m, 150m or others. Popular color is black and green. Other colors are also available. Pond liners are packed by rolls.

Below are scientific references to support the use of HDPE geomembrane in aquaculture farming application:

(1) Aquaculture farms in Belize: Robins P. Mclntosh, 2000, reported how using an HDPE liner reduced erosion of pond banks, increased the speed of the turn-around time between crops, sustained water levels, and improved pond efficiency.

(2) Agromarina de Panama Farm, Panama: Bray et al., 2001, issued a report describing how the destructive White Spot Syndrome Virus(WSSV) was bringing production to a halt in earthen ponds. The report found that survival rates increased from 9% in earthen ponds to 80% in ponds lined with a 0.75mm HDPE geomembrane.

(3) East Java, Indonesia: N. Taw et al., 2002, reported that productivity improved from 3634kgs/ha in an earthen pond to 10094kgs/ha in ponds lined with HDPE geomembrane.
